RSP Software Survey Results 2009

25th March 2009, by

With so many repository software suppliers present at the RSP Repository Software Day in Manchester, March 2009, we took the opportunity to give them all a questionnaire about their software, and received responses for eleven products: CONTENTdm, Digital Commons, DigiTool, DSpace, EPrints, Equella, Fedora, intraLibrary, Open Repository, Research-Output Repository Platform (Microsoft), and VITAL.

The results of this survey are at: http://www.rsp.ac.uk/start/software-survey/results-2009/. These are presented as a comparative table, with links to data sheets for individual products and further information.

The questionnaire covered about 50 points, under headings such as:

  • Supported Item Types
  • User Interface Functions
  • User Validation
  • Software Platforms & Dependencies
  • Machine-to-Machine Interoperability
  • Administrators' Functions
  • Documentation & Help
  • Services
  • Exemplar Repositories

Suppliers were asked to distinguish between features that are available now in the current release of their software, and features that are still undergoing testing or or planned for the future.

We hope that this information will be helpful to repository managers, especially those who are specifying new repositories
