RSP DSpace Technical Training

24th July 2008, by

On the 11 th July the Repositories Support Project held a follow up event to the successful DSpace repository administrator's day, this time focussing on the Technical side of DSpace installation, configuration and maintenance. The event was held at the New Horizons training facility in central Birmingham, a venue which provided dedicated equipment to allow not only theory to be presented, but the delegates to get stuck in with hands on practical's at their own PCs. The event attracted a wide audience with, administrators, technical staff and developers in attendance.

Delivered by Stuart Lewis and Chris Yates, DSpace experts from the RSP team based at Aberystwyth University, the course was organised on the basis of modules and offered participants the opportunity to have hands on practice using live test installations of the software. Modules covered the key areas of the technical management of a DSpace repository from installation of the software, configuration and customisation of the interface through to user authentication. Throughout the day, delegates were free to ask questions and receive support to any issues arising with their own DSpace installations.

"Very Good day!"

"It was great training"

Feedback from the event was very positive and the RSP plan to run further DSpace training courses in the future specifically training on the Manakin user interface for DSpace, a popular request among many of the delegates at previous events. The RSP also plans to run similar training events for the EPrints software, keep an eye out on our events web pages for more details.
