Official launch of CADAIR the online research repository for Aberystwyth University

18th June 2008, by

On 17th June 2008 Aberystwyth University officially launched their online research repository CADAIR. CADAIR was originally established as part of a two year pilot funded by a JISC start up and enhancement project. The pilot phase was successfully completed in early 2008 and currently the site features approximately 500 academic papers, and dissertations by taught masters and PhD students.

The launch event was attended by a variety of academics from across the university, including heads of department and heads of research, along with representatives from Information Services and specialist staff from the various repository projects based at Aberystwyth.

The programme began with a welcome and message of support from the Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Aled Jones, and was followed by a presentation on the benefits and features of CADAIR delivered by the university's Repository Advisor Dr Talat Chaudhri. The repository is specifically being marketed as a research showcase for the university which will increase the availability and impact of the institution's research outputs.

Following a brief talk by RSP member Jackie Knowles which covered the wider repository scene and a brief overview of repository activity across Wales, everyone was treated to tea and cakes courtesy of the RSP. Suitably refreshed there followed a lengthy and interesting question and answer session which included a series of practical demonstrations of repository services such as usage statistics and the database of publishers transfer agreements provided by SHERPA/RoMEO.

A press release can be seen on the Aberystwyth University news pages.
