DSpace training for repository administrators

17th June 2008, by

On 2nd June 2008 15 delegates from across the UK gathered at the New Horizons training facilities in central Birmingham to attend a one day RSP training course in using the DSpace software. The day was aimed at new DSpace repository administrators or support staff in Higher Education institutions and covered all the basics from getting started with DSpace through to making full and effective use of the flexibility the software offers.

Delivered by Stuart Lewis and Chris Yates, two DSpace experts from the RSP team based at Aberystwyth University, the course was organised on the basis of modules and offered participants the opportunity to have hands on practice with live test installations of the software. The specific modules covered basic functionality and key features of the software along with information about various customisations open to users of DSpace, all delivered at a level appropriate for the non technical administrator new to working with a repository.

"An excellent session"

"Very good course"

Feedback from the event proved very positive and the RSP plan to repeat the course at some point in the future. In the mean time places are still available on a parallel RSP DSpace training event taking place on the 11th July 2008, again at New Horizons training suite in Birmingham. This time the course is aimed at IT staff from Higher Education working with the DSpace software and will go into more technical detail again strongly relying on hands on practice. The RSP also plans to run similar training events for the EPrints software, keep an eye out on our events web pages for more details.
